Visit the Calliope River Historical Village
The Calliope River Historical Village is an outdoor, open-air museum located on the old Bruce Highway. It is adjacent to the new Bruce Highway. It is located beside the Calliope River at the River Ranch at Gladstone in Queensland, Australia. The museum comprises some old historic buildings relocated from the district to the historical village. The buildings in the area contain evidence of everyday life and the history of the railway.
The Calliope River Historical Village is a beautiful area in Calliope containing several early buildings in the area. The old buildings include a historic slab-hut, the Clyde Hotel, a Hazelden Presbyterian Church building, the Masonic Lodge Hall of Many Peaks, Raglan Dance Hall, Ambrose Railway Station, Barmundoo Homestead, Curtis House, Larson House, and the Wright’s Cottage. The village is well structured and laid out.
The Port Curtis Historical Society is in charge of operating the village. The operation commenced in a village in 1983. The village is run entirely with the help of volunteers. It is open daily between 10 am and 4 pm. It also serves as home to a country market regularly on the weekends.
Visit Lake Awoonga
Awoonga Lake is an attraction to tourists and anglers. The lake is approximately thirty minutes from Gladstone by road through Benaraby. It is located in Central Queensland. It is home to several small animals, including birds, fish, turtles, platypus, possums, etc. It is also home to over four hundred varieties of plants.
The lake is open to the public all through the year. It is also framed by the beautiful, rugged peaks of Mt Castle Tower. Lake Awoonga is a recreation area. The area is quite popular for the lake and its beautiful mountain views. It is a great place for fishing and catching barramundi. The largest barramundi ever caught weighs 36.5 kg. There are over four million barramundis released into the lake.
Swimming is allowed at the Awoonga Lake. There is a twenty-four-hour boat ramp that allows activities like sailing, skiing, and fishing, etc. You can rent a houseboat and take part in fishing cruises. The wonderful fishing experience, barbecue spots, playgrounds, Caravan Park, walking pathways, and shelter sheds serve as a major draw to fun-seekers. Lake Awoonga is also the main supplier of water to the Gladstone region.
